Fosamax™ (alendronate) is utilized for treatment of osteoporosis. The drug has been shown to build healthy bone and reduce fracture risk with the use of a ten milligram daily dose or seventy milligrams once a week. The medication should be taken in the morning on an empty stomach. After ingestion, you shouldn't lie down or eat for thirty minutes. Its most common side effect is gastrointestinal upset.

Miacalcin™(calcitonin) is used to treat osteoporosis. Administered as a daily nasal spray, the drug has been shown to build healthy bone and reduce fracture risk. The most common side effect is nausea.

Estrogen comes in many varieties including oral and patch forms. The drug is used to treat osteoporosis in post-menopausal woman. It has beneficial effects on the heart, brain, vaginal tissue, and colon. The medication is taken on a daily basis. The most common side effects include sore breasts and vaginal bleeding.

Evista™(raloxifene) This medication is used to treat osteoporosis in post-menopausal women. It may reduce the incidence of heart disease and breast cancer. The most common side effects are hot flashes and leg cramps.

Actonel™(risedronate) is utilized for treatment of osteoporosis. The drug has been shown to build healthy bone and reduce fracture risk with the use of a five milligram daily dose. The medication should be taken in the morning on an empty stomach. After ingestion, you shouldn't lie down or eat for thirty minutes. It's most common side effect is gastrointestinal upset.

Prevention
Daily use of Fosamax™ 5 mg , Actonel™ 5 mg , estrogen or Evista™ is indicated to prevent osteoporosis. A weekly dose of Fosamax™ 35mg can also be prescribed.
